Haiku from the Index of First Lines to Williams' Collected Poems

1. Eight days went by, eight days
Even in the time when as yet
Every day that I go out to my car

2. In the dead weeds of a rubbish heap
In the rain, the lonesome
in this strong light
is a condition --
I saw the two starlings,
I stopped the car
It's all in
It's a strange courage
It's the anarchy of poverty
It was then she struck -- from behind
I will teach you my townspeople

3. The over-all picture is winter
The precise counterpart
The pure products of America

4. There were some dirty plates
